Episode 068 - The Wicker Man (1973)

Scott's choice of movie this week as he and Charlie take a look at The Wicker Man from 1973.

Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) arrives on the small Scottish island of Summerisle to investigate the report of a missing child. A conservative Christian, the policeman observes the residents' frivolous sexual displays and strange pagan rituals, particularly the temptations of Willow (Britt Ekland), daughter of the island magistrate, Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee). The more Sergeant Howie learns about the islanders' strange practices, the closer he gets to tracking down the missing child.

Huge thanks to Tom from Anywhere But Here Podcast, Mark from The Good The Bad and The Odd Podcast and Andrew from Weekly Geek Speak for their comments and thoughts on the movie.

Scott also takes one for the team and watches the 2006 remake starring Nicolas Cage.

Episode 067 - Harold and Maude (1971)

Episode 067 of the podcast sees Scott and Charlie review the blackest of comedies....Hal Ashby's 'Harold and Maude' from 1971.

'This cult classic pairs Bud Cort as a dead-pan disillusioned 20-year-old obsessed with suicide and a loveable Ruth Gordon as a fun-loving 80-year-old eccentric. They meet at a funeral, and develop a taboo romantic relationship, in which they explore the tired theme of the meaning of life with a fresh perspective.'

Scott also takes a look at another Ashby movie from a couple of years later, 'Coming Home' starring Jane Fonda and Jon Voight.

We have a brief chat about our recent screening of Taxi Driver with our good friends over at Rochester Kino.

Hello there…sorry it’s been a while but we’re back (whether you wanted us or not unfortunately).

It’s a very special episode of the Stinking Pause podcast celebrating the BFI’s re-release of Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Barry Lyndon’.

Scott and Charlie were invited to a press screening of the Kubrick movie that no-one really talks about….and guess what…?  It’s just as good, if not better than all than ones you thought were masterpieces. This one is truly is a work of art,

Episode 065 - The Thing (1982)

Episode 065 of the podcast. An episode we recorded late last year.

Scott and Charlie chat about John Carpenter’s The Thing.

Scott was lucky enough to see a 70mm screening in London whilst Charlie watched it from behind the sofa at home.

Possibly Scott’s favourite horror movie, he shares a few memories of his history with the movie whilst Charlie reveals his thoughts on his first time watch.

We will be recording some new episodes starting this week hopefully and this and all of our previous episodes can be found on :

Episode 063 - Oscars 2016

Episode 063 in which gremlins strike in the form of a big conspiracy between Apple and Skype.

Thanks guys for suddenly having compatibility issues just minutes before our recording resulting in us resorting to the strange world of Google Hangouts.

In places, this has resulted to us sounding like Norman Collier on this episode (look him up kids; your parents thought he was hilarious!)

Nevertheless, this was our first official recording since Christmas and we take the opportunity to have a discussion on this year’s Oscars and our thoughts and predictions which no doubt will be spectacularly incorrect.

Huge thanks to Mr and Mrs Hart for their review of Whiplash and to Robbie for his email.

The Stinking Pause podcast returns with an episode nearly two years in the making. Finally, after Scott and Charlie appeared on the Anywhere But Here podcast in March 2014, Tom and Ant make their long awaited appearance as guests on the show.

Recorded just before Christmas, this episode features our thoughts on The Deer hunter and The Matrix along with discussions on James Bond, Superhero movies and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. All this plus a seasonal round of Cast of the Summer Wine.

We had a great time recording this episode and hopefully, Tom and Ant will join us again very soon.
