1000 downloads!!!

A massive thank you from Scott and Charlie for today we hit our (first?) one thousand downloads of the podcast.

It might not seem like a huge amount compared to some podcasts out there but when we first started this crazy ride earlier this year we honestly would have been grateful for ten downloads let alone a thousand.

Thank you once again for all of your support and we'll be back again in January

Merry Christmas from the Stinking Pause podcast

Scott, Charlie, Liam and Paul would like to wish all of our listeners and friends a very Merry Christmas!

A huge thank you to all of you that have downloaded over the year and especially to those of you that have got in touch with your comments, feedback and encouragement.

We never expected the response from you guys that we have received and trust that you have all enjoyed the random rubbish that we have brought you over the past six months or so.

To our fellow podcasters that have been there for us...we salute you all. Too many to mention but you know who you are and we truly appreciate and thank you for your support.

Rest assured, Scott and Charlie will return in January and we will try to sneak in one of our earlier efforts from the Balaban Sound Studio vaults before then.

So...whatever you are all doing over the holiday season, have a wonderful time and take our best wishes with you.

See you in the New Year.

Scott and Charlie.

Episode 008 The Christmas Special part 2

Join Scott, Charlie, Liam and Paul in The Balaban Christmas Grotto for the final part of our Christmas podcast.

Are The Long Kiss Goodnight and Monty Python's Life of Brian worthy to be called Christmas movies? Take a listen and hear what we think.

Charlie's aversion to Freddie Mercury and Queen are also up for debate but he gets his own back with an extra special Six Degrees of Separation.

Thank you to everybody that has listened to our shoddy attempts at podcasting this year and we wish you all a "Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year".

Stayed tuned to the end for another blooper!

Episode 007 The Christmas Special part 1

Christmas has arrived at the Balaban Sound Studio. Scott and Charlie are joined by Liam and Paul to celebrate the festivities with the first three of our let's say...different choices of Christmas movies.

First up is Charlie's choice...the traditional yuletide spectacular American Psycho.

That's followed by Edward Scissorhands which is Liam's choice.

And finally in this half of the podcast we celebrate ten years (or is it twenty?) of Love Actually.

Feedback this week is from our good friend Tom at the Anywhere But Here podcast and new friend of the show 'Jim from Swanscombe'.

Stay tuned until the end for a special blooper!

Second episode to follow next week.

A Happy Christmas to all of our listeners from Scott, Charlie, Liam and Paul.

Episode available at iTunes and Stitcher Radio

Our final movie in this years Christmas special is Liam's choice...Edward Scissorhands. We will be recording on Saturday.

Starring Johnny Depp...

...Winona Ryder...

...and horror legend Vincent Price.

Why is it a Christmas movie?...This perhaps...?

"In a castle high on top of a hill lives an inventor's greatest creation - Edward, a near-complete person. The creator died before he could finish Edward's hands; instead, Edward is left with metal scissors for hands. Since then, Edward has lived alone, until a kind lady called Peg discovers Edward and welcomes him into her home. At first, everyone welcomes Edward into the community, but soon things begin to take a change for the worse."

Scott's choice for the Christmas Special is Renny Harlin's The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Starring Geena Davis...

...Samuel L Jackson...

...Brian Cox...

...David Morse...

Why is it a Christmas movie?... How about this?...

"Samantha Caine, suburban homemaker, is the ideal mom to her 8 year old daughter Caitlin. She lives in Honesdale, PA, has a job teaching school and makes the best Rice Krispie treats in town. But when she receives a bump on her head, she begins to remember small parts of her previous life as a lethal, top-secret agent. Her old chums in the Chapter are now out to kill her so she enlists the help of a cheap detective named Mitch. As Samantha remembers more and more of her previous life, she becomes deadlier and more resourceful. Both Mitch and Charly proceed to do the killing thing, the bleeding thing and the shooting thing."

Love Actually

On Saturday Scott and Charlie will be joined in the Balaban Sound Studio to record the 7th episode of The Stinking Pause podcast. We will be joined once again by Liam and Paul to discuss 5 Christmas movies. Four of our choices are slightly off topic but trust us...there is a Christmas connection somewhere.

Our birthday movie is 2003's Love Actually and is definitely all about Christmas.

Starring Hugh Grant

Andrew Lincoln, zombie hunter...

...ex EastEnder Martine McCutcheon...

...pirate of the Caribbean Keira Knightley...

...Hans Gruber himself...Alan Rickman...

...national treasure...Emma Thompson...

...70's superstar...Bill Nighy...

...all round badass...Liam Neeson...

...President Billy Bob Thornton...

...and Martin Freeman in a non hobbit role.

Why is it a Christmas movie? How about this...

"Christmas time in England, and unusual things going on round. Some people are falling in love, then breaking up or some people just desperately lonely and still looking for that someone special. This is a story about 8 people who follow their hearts and show love or anger. If you look carefully around 'Love Actually' is all around you... "

Film of the year....?

I'm not one for bold statements (apart from this weekend's podcast...just ask Charlie) but I'm pretty sure that I have just seen my film of the year.

Everything you've read and heard about the film is true. Forget previous movies with cgi effects that you've looked at and thought, "Ooh...that's a bit ropey....just like a cartoon" (or video game). The effects in this movie are better than any I have seen before and the set pieces will keep you literally on the edge of your seat. But...do yourself a favour and watch this movie in the cinema and watch it in 3D...you can thank me later.

One downside to the movie... there are a couple of schmaltzy moments including one particular use of the 3D that may not sit right with some of you. Try to overlook those and just immerse yourself in a truly amazing piece of cinema. The soundtrack (what little there is) will grab you and leave you wanting to hear more.

I don't know at the moment where this movie lies within my all-time favourites list, but I'm pretty sure it's right near the top at the moment and is a film that I am likely to revist many times....told you - bold statement!
